Line C – Implementation of new plants for the recycling of plastic waste (through mechanical, chemical recycling, and plastic hubs), including plastic waste at sea, known as Marine litter.
THE PROJECT
The project involves the construction of an innovative new plant for the recycling of plastic waste, with specific reference to polystyrene (PS) and PET, in the municipality of Gioia del Colle (Bari).
The plant will be capable of treating over 28,000 tons of plastic waste annually, producing approximately 20,000 tons of secondary raw material, thereby making a concrete contribution to the development of the circular economy.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
- Increase plastic waste recycling capacity in Southern Italy (Mezzogiorno)
- Reduce dependence on plants located in Northern Italy and abroad
- Recover difficult-to-recycle materials (such as post-consumer polystyrene)
- Foster the production of secondary raw materials
- Contribute to the ecological transition
PLANT DESCRIPTION
The recycling process includes several technologically advanced phases:
- Opening and sorting of plastic waste
- Separation by polymer and color
- Hot washing and flake treatment
- Advanced optical sorting
- Production of recycled plastic granules
